Our advice

Training

Every dog deserves to be trained, just like every child has the right to go to school. The dog learns extremely quickly and this, from a young age (8/9 weeks). Training methods have evolved a lot and if your last dog training was 13 or 14 years ago, start all over again. You have the experience, yes, but you are out of step.

For those who think they can do it alone, well remember that your puppy must learn the basic commands young.

When choosing a trainer, check the recommended training methods. Go, before having your puppy, visit different places, without a dog, and you will see if you are comfortable with the place, the people, the atmosphere.

Go more towards group lessons. The goal is to socialize with other dogs, and to learn (human and dog) by imitation. Often the master has to adjust. The dog doesn’t have any creases, he’s a baby….. In private lessons, your puppy stays at home, he doesn’t go out of his comfort zone, and neither do you.

Toilet training

1) Large size cage (27X42) with divider.

2) Take the puppy outside and SEE him do it. Give him a treat. You are good for 15 to 30 free minutes in the house. If he does not relieve himself outside, put him back in his crate, without quibbling him. Try again 15 minutes later, until successful.

3) Give the puppy 1 piece at a time. When you are successful, you can increase in minutes, and in number of treats.

4) There’s no rush! We take our time, anyway, your dog will become clean…

5) A puppy that pees loses interest in people around it, in toys too. He is distracted and looking for “a corner” to go to the toilet. Be careful.

6) A puppy that wants to poo will go around in circles, as far as possible from where it is moving. Don’t take your eyes off it…

7) Phone rings? PUPPY IN HIS CRATE.

8) Does your child call you in the basement? PUPPY IN HIS CRATE.

Remember that the cage is his bedroom. Would you dare to put your child to sleep in the hallway, without a bedroom?

Grooming

Dogs should be groomed about 4 times a year. You can do it yourself because their fur is easy to care for. I still recommend that you go and have him groomed by a groomer around the age of 4 months to get him used to the noise of dryers, standing on a table, etc. I see it more as socialization for them.

Brush their fur all over, at least once a week, emphasizing behind the ears and groin.

Claw clipping: When you pick up your puppy, he will have had his claws clipped once a week from the age of 2 weeks. Please continue regular maintenance. If you don’t like cutting them for fear of hurting him, have someone do it, but don’t wait 1 month! Go there 2 weeks after having the puppy, and every 2 weeks after. You will thus avoid broken claws, or other which pose many more problems and costs than going there regularly. You can also use an electric claw polisher (which I use) which will cost you more to buy but will make you independent in the long term.

Ear care:Clean the ears once a month with a cleaning product, or after each swim.

Marley

What attracted me to Marley was both his fearless and reserved side. He needs as much to be given love as he needs to move freely in the forest. Son of Chili, we find in him the kindness of his mother. He also has the same habit as his mother of hiding his food or toys in the ground, imagining(!) that the other dogs will not find them…
